The Kinks- Arthur (or the Delcine and Fall of the British Empire)

Enough attention gets tossed to the fantastic achievements of the great late 60’s British Rock bands that its hard to understand why The Kinks seem to fall through so many people’s fingers. Arthur… is an incredible impressionist concept record that tells the story of a lost time in nostalgic vignettes. Existing in the space between the tight pop/rock of the Beatles and the loose feral energy of the Stones, The Kinks are in rare form on this amazing record. Inexplicably shunned from touring the U.S. during the preceding years before Arthur’s 1969 release, this record is uniquely British in its song structures and tasteful gritty production. A wonderful song by song review can be found here. The original Rolling Stone review is actually great too.
